How to know that your roof has asbestos?

Asbestos roofs are typically made of asbestos cement. If your home or office was built before the year 2000, it is likely that your roof has asbestos because chrysotile, crocidolite and amosite were the most popular roofing materials back then. However, it is not possible to identify asbestos by merely looking. Without the right training and experience, you will not be able to distinguish between insulation board and asbestos. Also, a lot of people think that asbestos roof materials mean only corrugated asbestos sheeting whilst there are so many different types of asbestos roof tiles covering commercial and residential buildings throughout Yorkshire.

To know if your roof has asbestos, hire our licensed asbestos surveyors. Our highly trained and skilled surveyors will assess your roof and send samples to the lab. If the lab report confirms asbestos, you can count on us to get rid of your asbestos roof so that you remain safe.

Importance of asbestos roof removal

In roofing, asbestos was used widely during the late 50s and also around the late 80s because of its excellent fire-resistant and thermal properties. During that time, the hazardous nature of asbestos was not known. When the hazards presented themselves in the form of heath conditions like, asbestosis and lung cancer, the material was banned in 1999.

Generally, when you leave an asbestos roof untouched and undamaged, there is nothing to worry about. However, when the roof starts to show signs of wear and tear, your safety and health are potentially compromised. The problem is that just like any other roofing material, asbestos roofs are going to degrade sooner or later. But, when asbestos roofs start to turn brittle, they risk exposing the dangerous fibres to the atmosphere. So, the moment you notice that there are signs of deterioration, you need to call our asbestos roof removal experts in Huddersfield to analyse the situation. We highly recommend that you not wait for the roof to break down, but take quick action. We will not only remove your roof, but also replace it with a much superior roofing system at the best price.

Huddersfield

Huddersfield is a large market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, England, which was a prominent mill town. To the town’s west are the Pennines, south is the River Holme’s discharge into the similar-sized Colne. The town’s historic county is the West Riding of Yorkshire.

The rivers around the town were tapped for steam turbines and textile treatment in the large weaving sheds which are associated with an economic boom in the early part of the Industrial Revolution. It has much neoclassical Victorian architecture centrally, among which its railway station which is in the rarest category of statutory recognition and protection (a Grade I listed building) – described by John Betjeman as “the most splendid station façade in England”, second only to St Pancras, London. Fronting St George’s Square, it was renovated for £4 million and accordingly won the Europa Nostra award for architecture.
